Salute to Our Fallen Heroes Project
Every day is memorial day to a soldier. This project is our way of honoring all of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family members and loved ones of those that gave their lives to fight for our country. May God give you peace in your heart and strength to carry on. They proudly served their country. Now, they proudly serve with angel's wings.

Williamson's of Shafter Lake, Andrews County, Texas

A query about the family of Esquire Williamson was posted on the county
Query Page.

Tim Williamson has donated many photos from his family and of Shafter Lake, Andrews County, Texas including that of the Shafter lake Hotel & the Shafter Lake Baseball Team of 1910. He has also donated a DeathCertificate for Martha L. Williamson and the Marriage record for H. F. Williamson & Nora Smith.

Below is the Query Mr. Williamson posted. If you have any information to help him to find the information he is requesting please email Tim Williamson.

My father is Thomas Joe Williamson whose father is Henry Franklin Williamson (HFW) whose father is Esquire Thomas Williamson (ETW).

ETW was born in Alabama in 1838, moved to Eastland, TX sometime after 1860 (i.e., after the
Civil War). My records show that ETW and family moved to Shafter Lake in 1904.

I am a novice at genealogical research but did come across the enclosed document. I accidentally located it. It is listed on the Anderson County TXGenWeb site (http://www.etgs.org/txanderson/ConfPens/ConfPens.htm)

I conclude that was listed there accidentally because the first page says “Andrews County” and
it was mistaken for Anderson County.

Can you tell me what I can do (or how best) to find any other information for my ancestors who
lived in Andrews County?

I am currently working with my son to get obituaries from the last 5 years updated and added to the county site. If you have any obituaries you would like to add please post them here or email the county coordinator. Once they are received then they will be posted to the site as well.
I do have some obituaries from 1945 to 1970 that I will slowly work to get transcribed, then added as well.

Jack Stockstill

Funeral Services for Stockwill held in Mineral Wells

Funeral services were held for Jack Stockstill, 31, at 4 p.m., Tuesday in the South Side Church of Christ as Mineral Wells.

Reverend Freeman, pastor, officiated with the Buzbee Funeral Home in charge.

Stockstill was killed instantly Sunday evening when his car collided with another car three miles east of Lubbock on the Idalou highway at 7:15. The diver of the other car, Cecil R. Fox, was also killed, and the two passengers on the car with Fax were injured.

Stockstill left Andrews about 1 p.m. Sunday to visit his brother Corbett in Crosbyton and was returning home when the accident occurred.

He was born March 4th, 1919 in Randeletta, Oklahoma. He moved with his family to Palo Pinto County where his parents still reside.

He enlisted in the 124th Calvary, a unit of the National Guard, in 1940. He made the Louisiana maneuvers and underwent training at Fort Ringold on the Texas border and at Fort Bliss in El Paso. He was later transferred to the 112th Calvary which was shipped to the Southwest Pacific. The outfit fought their way from New Caledonia up through New Guinea, New Britain, and the Philippines. Stockstill was a machine gunner in Company F and was promoted to the rank of sergeant after distinguishing himself in many battles.

Upon discharge from the Army the deceased entered partnership business with Harold Roberts, in Andrews, Both were together in the same outfit throughout the war. They were contractors in the shot hole drilling business with headquarters in Andrews at the time of the accident.

Jack Stockstill is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter E. Stockstill, Miner Wells; two brothers, Noble H., Ft. Worth, and Corbett, Crosbyton; and two sisters, Mrs. Ruby Dashner, and Miss Edyth Stockstill, both of Ft. Worth. Members of the stockstill's troop were pallbearers. The body was interred in the Memorial Cemetery in Mineral Wells.

The following attended the funeral from Andrews: Mr. and Mrs. Charles W. Robers, Sr., Mr. and Mrs. Harold Roberts, James Roberts, Weldon Ingram, Ross Leird, and Corbertt Stockstill, Wesley and Louise Roberts.
